HIBDON SuperCasters to Storm the Market by the End of the Year

ST. LOUIS, MO 10/22/2009 –— U.S. Reel announced today that the “First Family of Fishing”, headed by Guido and Dion Hibdon, is endorsing their revolutionary new HIBDON Performance Series with the introduction of the HIBDON SuperCaster 800SX casting reel. Payden, Connar, and Lawson Hibdon – sons of Dion – are also tournament anglers and are a part of the Hibdon winning team. The Hibdon SuperCaster is the latest in the high-performance U.S. Reel arsenal that eliminates the old energy-robbing levelwind eyelet found in traditional casting reels.

“We are honored and thrilled that the Hibdon Family has joined with us to produce this fantastic new reel,” says U.S. Reel President Fred Kemp. “This reel is designed with features that give serious anglers a definite edge and is offered at a great price.” Read More

Hibdon’s heroics

EUFAULA, Ala. – The saying goes, You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. And that’s because sometimes old dogs are pretty darn happy with their old tricks.

Just ask legendary fishing pro Guido Hibdon: At 62 years young, Hibdon won his second Walmart FLW Series event, this one on Lake Eufaula, on Saturday to pocket $125,000.

Hibdon’s last Series win was in the fall of 2007 at Lake Champlain. And in similar fashion to his Champlain win, the BP pro saved the best for last at Eufaula, weighing in his heaviest stringer of the BP Eastern Division event – 24 pounds, 1 ounce – on the last day to take the victory. His four-day winning total came to a whopping 83 pounds, 9 ounces. Read Complete Story

Hibdon second

BP pro Guido Hibdon of Sunrise Beach, Mo., trails Brown by about 4 ½ pounds. And if there is one guy you don’t want lurking behind you on Lake Eufaula, it’s a proven veteran like Hibdon, especially when he gets “dialed in.”

Today Hibdon got “dialed in” to the tune of 23 pounds, 4 ounces to claim second place with a three-day total of 59 pounds, 8 ounces.

And Browne has a little bit of Hibdon double-trouble to deal with tomorrow since Dion, Guido’s son, sacked 22 pounds, 5 ounces on the very pattern that Guido told him about. In fact, Dion slid into the top-10 cut in 10th place and now stands in a position to help Guido. There are no rules that prohibit pros from sharing information with other pros who are in competition – what’s that saying about blood being thicker than water?

Though Hibdon is keeping quiet about his pattern details, he did say that the fish are definitely postspawn bass and that each day they have changed.

“The first day, they were real shallow, and I started out too deep,” Hibdon said. “But once I figured how they were set up, I mauled them. Today was just the opposite. I started up shallow, and my boat was sitting right on top of the son-of-a-guns. I went two or three hours without a bite, and once I figured out they had moved out just a tad, I mauled them again. I’m talking, I caught 23 pounds in no time. I’m fishing the same water each day with two lures, but it just takes me a while to dial them in. But once I figure out how they are set up on those places, it’s game over.” Read Complete Story

Hibdon fifth

When it comes to being around the biggest fish, BP pro Guido Hibdon of Sunrise Beach, Mo., might be the man to watch in this tournament.

His day-one catch of 19 pounds, 3 ounces for fifth place is certainly something to brag about on its own merits, but also consider that Hibdon’s co-angler – Derrick Snavely of Rogersville, Tenn. – caught a whopping 26 pounds from the back of Hibdon’s boat.

“You think I’m around some fish or what?” Hibdon asked after realizing that some 45 pounds of bass had come from his BP-wrapped Ranger boat.

“We actually got on these fish quite by accident,” Hibdon laughed. “I’m not going to say what we were fishing, but let’s just say I flipped up there a little too far, got hung, and when I shook my lure free – whammo – the first bass of the day hit. That’s when the light bulb came on – we were not fishing shallow enough on this stuff – these big fish were way up in it. Once we figured that out, we mauled them.” Read Complete Story

Son's Advice Woke Up Veteran Hibdon At Champlain

About 15 months ago, Guido Hibdon gave son Dion some advice that helped him notch a 3rd-place finish at the Champlain FLW Tour and gain a berth in the 2006 Forrest Wood Cup. Last week, the kid returned the favor.

Dion recommended that Guido forget about catching smallmouths and focus entirely on largemouths at the Champlain Eastern FLW Series. That counsel resulted in Guido's most significant victory in 16 years.

The 61-year-old Missourian caught 56-01 over 3 days to win the weather-shortened event by more than 2 pounds over runner-up Dave Wolak. He caught a tournament-best 23-pound sack on day 1 and sealed the victory with 20-05 on the final day. Read More
